Iran & Iraq: Heads of State Shows Bilateral Synchrony During Meeting

The Iranian leader arrived on Wednesday at Baghdad International Airport, where he is making his first trip abroad since taking office.

Iraq’s prime minister, Mohamed Shia al-Sudani, met with Iranian president Masud Pezeshkian in Baghdad on Wednesday and urged greater economic cooperation between the two countries.

According to a press release from the Iraqi side, Al Sudani spoke of the importance of establishing strong bilateral links between the two countries for greater stability and development.

On the other hand, Pezeshkian also showed his interest in strengthening ties with the neighboring nation and stressed the importance of continuing with the cooperation plan as well as signing memoranda of understanding.

The Iranian head of state and his Iraqi counterpart, Abdelatif Rachid, plan to address important issues on the international and regional agenda, such as Israel’s crimes against Palestinians and the need to end the genocide in Gaza.

During the day, both sides signed 14 cooperation agreements in various areas, including telecommunications, tourism, trade, agriculture, natural resources, telecommunications, social protection, youth and sports, education, among others.

In agreement with the Iranian presidency, Pezeshkian will visit the Shiite mausoleums of Karbala and Najaf, and the capital of the semi-autonomous region of Iraqi Kurdistan.
